Guilting Others is Shameful

These thoughts come from a friend of mine on FB. We should have another fallacy called "Argumentum ad guiltum". The fallacy that someone supposedly did you a favor, and therefore you are wrong to question their actions.

"Jesus died for you! Soldiers died for your freedom! I work day and night to put food on the table. I love you. I only want what's best. Your father works hard."

I've been on the receiving end of these and it is annoying.

'Jesus died for your sins...' No, you made up a concept called 'sin' to guilt people and then you conveniently provided a solution for that made up problem so that people would be tied to a religious institution.

'Soldiers died for your freedom.' No, they died because politicians sent them to fight people they've never meant and likely don't mean them or me any harm personally.

'I work day and night to put food on the table.' Gee, I'm sorry, who was the one who decided to have a kid? You did, buddy. If you choose you have a kid you have made a chosen obligation to take care of the kid. The kid has no obligation towards you just for being born. They never choose to be born and they didn't get to choose their particular parents. Guilting your kids so that they'll do stuff for you later is a very nasty thing to do and I won't respect you for doing that.
